A South Sound Tradition
Freedom Fest has become one of the premier Independence Day celebrations in the Pacific Northwest. Originally created as JBLM’s annual Fourth of July celebration, the festival has grown into a major regional event that brings together military personnel, local communities, and visitors from throughout Washington.
In 2026, the event takes on added significance as Freedom Fest 250, commemorating America’s 250th birthday with expanded entertainment and special activities celebrating the nation’s history and those who continue to serve it.
Entertainment for the Whole Family
Freedom Fest offers something for every age. Festival guests can enjoy:
- Thrilling carnival rides and classic midway games
- A dedicated Kids’ World featuring family entertainment
- Food trucks and festival favorites
- Local vendors and community exhibits
- Live music throughout the day
- Military static displays showcasing equipment and vehicles
- Roving entertainers, magicians, and interactive performances
The festival’s main stage traditionally features a variety of musical performances, ranging from tribute bands and regional favorites to nationally recognized recording artists. The evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the South Sound sky.
A Celebration with Military Heritage
What makes Freedom Fest unique is its close connection to Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the U.S. Armed Forces. Visitors have the opportunity to experience military traditions alongside the holiday festivities through static vehicle displays, ceremonial presentations, performances by America’s First Corps Band, and demonstrations highlighting the professionalism and readiness of America’s service members.
Previous celebrations have also included popular attractions such as classic car shows, community sporting events, and military fitness exhibitions that showcase the dedication and teamwork of JBLM personnel.
Planning Your Visit
Admission to Freedom Fest is free, making it one of the South Sound’s best values for family entertainment. While admission, concerts, military displays, and many activities are complimentary, carnival rides, food, beverages, and select vendor offerings are available for purchase.
Because the event is held on an active military installation, visitors who do not possess Department of Defense identification must complete the required visitor registration before arriving. Adults should also be prepared to present a valid Real ID-compliant government-issued photo identification when entering Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Shuttle transportation is typically provided from designated parking areas to the festival grounds.
