B&I Public Market Place
B&I Public Market Place began as a small hardware store in 1946. Through decades of growth and community support, it has become a local landmark — now home to more than 60 diverse shops and businesses across 150,000 square feet of space.
While the legendary Ivan the Gorilla is no longer here, his story continues to live on within our walls. Visitors can still see Ivan’s preserved room, a lasting reminder of the B&I’s colorful past and its unique place in Tacoma’s history.
Today, the marketplace is filled with one-of-a-kind local and international shops, offering everything from food, fashion, and gifts to specialty services and entertainment. The B&I continues to be a place where families gather, cultures connect, and small businesses thrive. Come visit us and experience the spirit of Tacoma’s historic marketplace.
